The backlash from Pete Hoesktra’s distasteful, racially-charged anti-Stabenow ad is gaining steam!

Kathy Barks Hoffman of the Associated Press reports in the Detroit Free Press, “U.S. Senate candidate Pete Hoekstra’s Super Bowl Sunday ad has drawn criticism from Republicans, Democrats, ministers and Asian Americans.”

Hoffman’s article @ said, “A coalition of black ministers in Detroit called Monday for U.S. Senate candidate Pete Hoekstra to apologize for his Super Bowl ad featuring a young Asian woman speaking broken English to describe the impact of the Democratic incumbent’s economic policies.”

And the story has gone international! In the United Kingdon, Wil Longbottom of the Daily Mail covers the story under the headline, “Republicans face backlash over ‘racist’ Superbowl ad that features Asian girl struggling to speak English.”

Meanwhile, over on Facebook, Hoekstra’s campaign either can’t keep up with surging number of negative comments, or they’ve stopped invoking Chinese-style censorship practices and are letting people have “free speech.”

On YouTube, Hoekstra’s original posting of the ad disabled comments, but other submissions of the ad have been re-posted with comments enabled, and they’re overwhelmingly negative.

Over at, Tim Murphy writes, “Behold the Most Racist Political Ad of the Year (So Far).” And is covering the story, “Pete Hoekstra Ad Draws More Criticism, Called ‘Really, Really Dumb’.”

Stay tuned! It’s going to be a BIG day!
